Renewable Energy
Our planet’s natural resources are depleting rapidly and experts predict that supplies will be exhausted during our lifetimes. This is of course a serious problem as we are reliant on fossil fuels for energy. Thankfully there are other alternative sources of energy available.
Renewable energy sources are already widespread and most people will be familiar with solar panels and wind turbines. Unfortunately these energy sources only generate a relatively small amount of power when compared to other, less environmentally friendly sources of power.
A great deal of funding is being poured into research to improve these existing alternative power sources and discover new sources. If the efficiency of solar panels could be increased significantly then it may, in the future, be possible to utilise such methods to generate the majority of our power.
Solar panels are already commonly used by households throughout the country to generate electricity and hot water. Many people who have had a solar energy system installed in their homes have found that their utility bills have dramatically decreased thanks to reduced consumption of mains electricity and natural gas.
If more households opted to have solar panels fitted then the amount of energy used on average would be significantly reduced. The government is keen to encourage home owners to invest in solar panels and other forms of renewable energy and there many grants available to help people afford this technology.
